The school department has officially approved renaming the center to honor Alice Freeman. It is deeply moving to see her decades of service recognized in this permanent way. We will watch for the installation of the new signage to ensure her legacy is properly celebrated.

“A School Psychologist who was affectionately known to everyone as "Miss Alice", Alice Freeman had a very long and distinguished career with a great passion for special needs children beginning at Meeting Street School and later on at the Warwick School Department where she was employed for 41 years before retiring in 2011. She helped pioneer and implement many programs for preschool children, including early intervention. "Miss Alice" strove to ensure that each child could receive the best educational support possible, and in so doing touched the hearts and lives of countless children and their families.”  (Published in The Providence Journal on July 1, 2012)

Miss Alice worked tirelessly to provide quality programs, education and advocacy for students and families in the Warwick Schools, and was a true inspiration to those she worked with to strive to do the same.

In honor of Miss Alice’s 41 years of committed service to the children of Warwick, we would like to petition that the following change be made:

That the Drum Rock Early Childhood Center in Warwick be renamed the “Alice V. Freeman Early Childhood Center”,  as a tribute to her dedication.

I remember her from early intervention back in the 90s. Such a sweet lady who truly changed lives. Great idea!

ABSOLUTELY. Miss Alice was the heart of that school department for so many years. She deserves this honor 100%.

Miss Alice was amazing with my son. She really cared about the kids and this is the least we can do to honor her memory.

Long overdue. She did so much for Warwick schools.
