Canyons School District has mandated a boundary change for a select group of students that have spent their 7th grade year at Albion Middle School. They now want them to move to another middle school for 1 year before going to high school. Changing schools is very disruptive to any child, but especially during these critical middle school years. To pull a child from their friend and environment for a year makes no social or academic sense. Our petition is to grandfather the students that are currently enrolled in Albion Middle for 7th grade and let them complete 8th grade there as well. In addition there was very poor communication with parents about the plan with most first learning about the plan by receiving a letter from Union Middle requesting enrollment elections the 2nd week of December 2012.
