"Asked by Senator Shattuck if she thought the proposed bill would eliminate discrimination, Elizabeth Peratrovich queried in rebuttal, 'Do your laws against larceny and even murder prevent those crimes? No law will eliminate crimes but at least you as legislators can assert to the world that you recognize the evil of the present situation and speak your intent to help us overcome discrimination.' "
No law will stop abuse by itself. However, if the Alaska Safe Children's Act spares even one Alaska child from the scars of sexual abuse or dating violence, it is worth it. Erin's Law and Bree's Law are a chance for Alaska to assert as a State that we have had enough. It is not sufficient to Choose Respect, we must educate our children about the threats they face, empower them to stand up for themselves and others, and give them resources and capacities to do so.
Please stop politicizing something that every Legislator should be able to support. The Senate must stop tinkering with HB 44 and sign it as it passed the House.

I am disgusted with the legislators who abuse their positions by putting their own personal interests above those of Alaskans, especially our children. This bill deserves to be passed as it was originally written and intended.

Pass this bill now!! I was sexually assaulted as a child multiple times, so when my boyfriends started hitting me it was just part of life. I was brutally beaten and raped when I was 17, and I didn't know who or where to go for help. No child tells their parents everything. I'm 40 and I still have secrets I will take to the grave. Logically, rationally, I know I was a victim but I still feel the shame and embarrassment. As a victim of multiple abusers I hope my children will never experience the heartache and horror I went through. As a mother of 3 beautiful girls, I am terrified of what could happen. PLEASE PASS THIS BILL NOW!!

To The Legislators who are trying to change this bill, you should be ashamed of yourselves for trying to use your political office to try and get other measures such as dropping the requirement for the CCRA passed. Alaska Safe Children's Act should be passed in its purest form.

I have 5 daughters living in Fairbanks and one grandaughter. Ler's keep them safe. Teen girls don't always talk to their moms and boys need to be kept safe as well.
