Alain was using the over the counter remedies for a cold that we all use so should we all be called drug abusers? It is daft - give him back his medal - his life since that day shows the hard working person he is! It was a technicality that the IOC delighted in finding against him because he had dared to beat the usual "Skiing Countries" and their "Stars"!

Alain was cleared of cheating on appeal having been the victim of a cruel tion of a previously wholly accceptable decongestant spray. No offence was committed and his medal must be returned to its rightful winner

Andrew Macmillan - share your views on drug taking, but the 'doctor' in charge of the testing seemed to apply one set of rules for US athletes (he cleared Carl Lewis to name but one of many) and another for non-US. Baxter made an honest mistake and was hung out by a dubious testimony - even Beni Reiche thinks he was hard done by and he benefited from the decision!

Everybody now knows how hard you have to work to achieve that level of performance and Alain deserves the medal that he won fairly.

I'm completely against drug taking in sport and of course I believe this was a cpmpletely unintentional breach.and would love Alain to win his deserved bronze medal. It is so difficult/almost impossible for the officials to prove intention and so it has to be zero tolerance. You cannot quantify the benefit that athletes might receive, even unintentionally, in any sport where hundredths of a second matter. Alain has the moral high ground and the respect of his nation and others who know he deserved it. Unfortunately I would with great regret leave it at that.
