As a registered voter in the state of Alabama, the signers below our petitioning the Alabama State Senate caucus to pass Senate Bill 15 which is sponsored by Senator Cam Ward.
As it currently stands Alabama ballot access laws rank in the bottom 5% nationwide in the requirements for a minor party or an independent candidate to be listed on the general election ballot. If enacted this law will reduce the current 3% petition requirement to 1.5% and put Alabama in line with other states. This bill will still require minor parties and independents candidates to still show some level of support before running candidates.
Since there are no recognize minor parties in Alabama, the state will not occur additional expenses in printing primary ballots. The 20% voting threshold for a minor party to be recognized will not be changed.
As a registered voter, I would like the opportunity to have more than two choices on our state ballot. Please support this Senate Bill with your vote and co-sponsorship.
