The current upgrades and repairs at Ala Moana Beach Park and Magic Island are great. They are improvements that meet the needs of local folks and are inviting to our visitors. Removing parking will limit use of these areas for the many local folks who use the park . What is attractive to our visitors will be lost when our local Ohana cannot reasonably access the park.

On behalf of the many handicapped and elderly park users who depend upon access to Ala Moana Park for the maintenance of our health and wellness, I strongly oppose any change to the makai pathway and the mauka parking pattern. Either would jeopardize our safety, cause stress, and increase risks be are not able to overcome.

The only saving grace of Waikiki is Kapiolani Park. Do not destroy one of the last remaining large beach in town!

I am for this petition that is against three of the proposed changes in the DEIS because it will ruin the parking situation and the grassy area along the beach for picnicking. Ther is so much more I oppose in the master plan, but these are the top priorities for now. Please maintain the park and don't commercialize it. It is going to have way too many people using the park, especially with the increase in parking areas and when the rail is finished, exceeding the amount or area the park can comfortably allow while having a quality experience. I am against any changes to the park, except that you maintain it better than you every have in the past. I've been a user of the park as a toddler back in the early 60s, and remember how nice and clean the bath and shower facilities were when they were first built later in the decade. They were something we were all proud to use. Though we did not have the homeless problems back then that we've had increasingly over the past 20-30 years, still, the city has not kept up the park's maintenance to acceptable standards. It's because of it's large open grassy areas and trees that it's beloved, besides the beach and lagoon, as well as the surfing spots, is what makes this park so popular. It already has everything you could want and ask for in a public beach facility. Once you cover it up with concrete, there is no bringing it back. To change it would destroy many a local families traditional gathering places and memoires lost. We've had our activities right in the key hole for the last 50 years. In 10-15 years, the rising sea levels will inundate the coastline, beach, and road. You should be making plans on how to deal with the eroding coastlines along the whole waterfront instead. I fear the city is making these improvements, at particularly this time, to benefit the real estate investors and developers along the Ala Moana Corridor. The improvement plan favors what the commercial and private investor interests are instead of what the people who actually use the park want. If you just look at the numbers, it makes economic sense that the improvements would increase their property values and raising more property tax revenues as well. I want to keep the park, the way it is, as our park, the peoples park for as long as possible. Some day, our park, will become the "neighborhood park of the new residents", who will use political pressure to have the changes they would want as prescribed by their neighborhood board. I support this petition since it clearly states how negative the effects of a shared use path on the makai sidewalk would be for the public who go to Ala Moana Beach Park to relax and picnic with their friends and family. By removing the grassy strip alongside the curb of the walkway and replacing it with concrete, the area becomes hotter and less welcoming to beachgoers who like to picnic near the sand. It also creates unnecessary safety hazards especially for, though not limited to, children and the elderly by allowing wheeled vehicles, electric and self propelled, on the same walking path as pedestrians and those crossing to get to the beach. Regarding the perpendicular parking being proposed by the City's Master Plan, it is also creating unnecessary expense, safety issues, and increased traffic by putting perpendicular stalls on a two way drive through the park. Mayor, please take these plans out of the Final Environmental Impact Statement and Master Plan for Ala Moana Regional Park and Magic Island.

I am for this petition that is against three of the proposed changes in the DEIS because it will affect the way my family and friends have been enjoying Ala Moana Beach Park in a negative way.
