Ajax Lakeside – Let’s Fight for a Better Community
What do we want? A school with parks and community facilities
Carruthers Creek, our community’s designated public school, has insufficient space for all Lakeside residents. Almost ½ of the children who live in our community must attend Bolton C. Falby. Children who are attending both schools are bussed as they are more than 4 KM from our community. St. Bernadette’s, the community’s catholic school, is even further away and is currently at capacity.
The John Boddy building site on Audley Road, South of Bayly Street will bring an additional 550 homes being built over the next 5 years. That equates to 1000+ new residents on our roads, at our schools, and in our parks.
In addition to the John Boddy development there are TWO additional developments planned for the lands south of Bayly Street on the East side of Shoal Point Road.
DEVELOPMENT #1: Plans have been submitted which will bring an estimated 200 new homes including condominium townhouses and prestige commercial businesses. The planning and approval process for this development is underway. A town meeting will be happening in the coming weeks. Stay tuned for the location, date and time. The more residents that attend the meeting the better for our community.
DEVELOPMENT #2: Not yet in the planning and proposal stage however this development will bring a possible school, large community park and an additional 600 homes.
Development number 1 referenced above is pushing hard to have the plans approved and for construction to start as soon as possible however, plans have not been submitted for the second development and it may be years before they even start the process. Even if the plans are submitted immediately, the school boards (public and catholic) have the right to refuse to build a school in our community. They have already refused the opportunity, let’s not allow them to do it again!
A school and park would provide our neighbourhood with the facilities we need to grow and develop as a safe community – close schools for children, a gym for sports teams and leagues, spaces for community groups to meet and fields for outdoor activities. Why do other Durham communities of the same age and size get these facilities and we do not?
Ajax Lakeside wants to ensure that the developers, school boards and the town prioritize the development of a school and park in South East Ajax and not just continue to add housing.
