I have seen several cases of doping throughout my career. Just imagine how untested I was for being the first South American to win an ITU WTS 1991. I've seen a lot of excuses and gimmicks for doped athletes to continue in the sport. Today my tolerance for doping is zero. It saddens me when some doctor, who calls himself a sports doctor, corroborates doping cases. It makes me sad when you see confederations hiding doping cases from prominent athletes so that the entity does not lose prestige or sponsors. Or when doctors accredited by the doping test rid athletes of their country who were caught in doping, by invalidating the test justifying error in the procedure at the time of collection, and simply ignoring that the illicit substance was there. It saddens me to see fans of "pseudo heroes", even after the mask is dropped, still admire such "athlete". And what saddens me most when an athlete is caught on the doping test is to realize how distorted the view of the sport is, both among amateurs and professionals. Or at least distorted the vision I had as an athlete that I hold today as a coach. For me, the essence and my greatest goal in sport has always been self-overcoming through knowledge and acceptance of my physical limitations, and knowledge and evolution of my emotional-mental capacity. Physically we are very limited, and we will get older and even more physically limited, but the game is to use sport to train our head, our mental strength, to overcome challenges and barriers in and out of sport. While some resorted to doping, I practiced meditation to expand my emotional-mental potential. While many use painkillers to remove the pain, I used my focus on breathing to ignore it. While many rush to overcome their opponents at all costs, I just wish I could compete well-trained and overcome myself mentally. I don't think anyone who sees sport in this way can't take advantage of sports training for a living. Those who only see the result have a very limited view o
