Age of Consent for marriage for girls
Currently boys have to be 21 years of age for them not to have their parents consent for marriage and 18 years for girls. I would like for South African's to stand together and ask government to change this, girls should also be 21 years of age. Let me tell you why I decided on this: in Jan 2014 my daughter turned 18, two months later she ran away with a 31 yr old man and married him in Sept 2014. We, as her parents are not allowed to have any contact with her (this is presumably a demand from her husband). Less than two weeks ago she called and told me he hit her - but she stays. (This is a shortened version) And legally there is nothing we can do about it. So if you have a girl child, lets protect them as much as we can. Many thanks to all of you who have the courage to put their signature to this!
