It is shocking to learn that a Left Unity community has turned transphobic, and I too have felt forced to have little to do with it.

Because of that article, a Left Unity community became unacceptably hostile to transfgolk, and I felt forced to leave it. The political left does not need this kind of infighting, nor shold it be attacking vulnerable members of society.

As one of the SR site moderators, I sign this with two important reservations: this article was not commissioned by SR (See http://bit.ly/SRapology); the statement's claims about comments are mistaken, as far as I and the other moderators can see, the pro-trans rights posts were all approved, and the comment saying 'Sir' was deleted as soon as it was pointed out.

This article was a disgrace and a slap in the face to any even remotely progressive supporters of SR. By publishing it you have literally showcased worse politics than racist xenophobic mainstream organisations, and that is shameful for a group which considers itself socialist and focused on changing the current system for the better. Gender identity is not up for debate. People's lived experiences and struggles are not up for debate. You would not host a piece saying Muslims shouldn't be allowed in schools because one Muslim person abused a child, so why is it acceptable to publish an article saying trans women using women's toilets represent a danger?

Shocking that a socialist group should think that the rights of an oppressed group should be up for debate.

The article was not by a member of SR and there are objections to it inside the organisation, but that is little comfort, I'm ashamed and sorry to have to sign this

Perhaps a touch wordy for a petition... but makes the point, a good point.

As a socialist trans woman who was at one point considering joining SR, seeing TERF tripe in its publication made me feel physically sick
