I do not doubt the benefits to the older kids but think that these are being gained at a tremendous cost to the elementary kids. Our elementary schools should remain aligned with most others in the state and start at 9am.

The district needs to figure out a way to change the HS start time, but NOT at the expense of all the other schools too! Why not get more buses and go to a 2-tier system to eliminate any school from starting before 8am!

Do NOT lower the start time for our elementary kids!!! I have experienced both early/late start times with our kids and there is nothing beneficial to having young kids wake so early. The balance between home/school/social life is affected and their mental and emotional state is compromised as well.

I strongly recommend late start for Elementary Schools because younger kids definitely need more sleep to be active in school and perform well. And also in winter, younger kids waiting for bus such early in the morning is very difficult.

1) How does it make sense for younger kids not having at least 10hrs of sleep?
2) High School students can stay home alone, but the younger kids need after school home base adding more financial burden for parents.
3) 5 out of 9 school months is peak winter, almost 60% of days the kids have to go to school before sunrise. Waiting in dark, cold for bus that early is totally insane.
4) There are many researches showing younger kids need more sleep and their behavioral pattern is hard to be changed at later stages. They may always become mediocres.

I disagree with this petition. The research-aligned option is the best option. Many parents of late start schools complain their elementary school students have been "up for hours" waiting for the school day to start. Half the morning is gone by the time school begins.

I would urge the school to focus on the health, safety and equality ( yes, I can't afford a private school which accommodates late starting times for my 1st grader son) before making such partial options for young kids. In my view these changes may simply be shifting the problem from adolescents to younger children, instead of eliminating it altogether. Hopefully, we can get this right one day and do what's best for the future generations beyond financial numbers and policies !!!

I dont agree with proposed timing changes as being working parents it poses serious challenges for our only child who'll be first grader next school year.

This research does not take into consideration young kids going to Elementary school at all for several reasons. Firstly, young kids need 10hrs sleep as prescribed by pediatricians, how are they supposed to have that if they need to get ready for school by 6:30AM. Secondly, half of the school year it would mean that kids will have to wake up, get ready and board school bus before sunrise. This will be extremely harmful for their sleep pattern. What kind of research can suggest that it would be good for kids going to elementary school to wake up in the middle of night in winter to go to school. Needles to say, it would be extremely taxing for the parents to get their kid(s) ready for school that early and will also cost them money for day care post school timings since office timings of parents cannot change as per the school district.
Even if we agree that a late start time for high school would be good, but this cannot and should not be done at the expense of young children. This research only concentrates on high school kids and literally puts the elementary school kids under the bus.
I am completely against this change of school time. We should be able to find a better solution if that's really required.

Specially in harsh winter condition, pushing kids to wake up early for early start is not a good idea..also this will add financial burden on parents to pay additional money for home base.I strongly oppose early timings.
