Against BHS Late Start

The schedule should stay the same for a variety of reasons, but the most significant is the fact that us students would have less instructional time. As a result of this decrease in school time, we will be at a disadvantage when applying for colleges against other schools, like Stevenson and New Trier.

I think that the school start time should remain at 7:20am because the change would impact students in a very negative way.

Honestly they should keep the schedule as it is. Both my parents work and my little sister takes the bus home. If elementary school starts before the high school there will be no one to get her inside the house and watch her. She is 8 that is ridiculous for her to start school before me by the way. Also my sister and I do barrington swim club at the high school. I have practice from 5:15-7 am and she has it from 5:30-6:30 pm. Some of the other groups don't end until 8 pm. With the late start, if sports don't start until like 5 and don't end until like 7 or 8 there is no point in the late start, students wouldn't get enough sleep. But with the late start what are little kids on sports not going to get to bed until 10:30. Also when there are companions for sports I'm quite sure that the other schools won't want to wait 2 hours for barrington to get to their school. Also for some underclassmen, if they miss the bus, they won't be able to get a ride to school because if both their parents work no one can drive them. I'm just sayin that whoever came up with the idea to start this late did not think it through all the way and the schedule should stay how it is.

NO LATE START

I don't think that starting school at 9-9:30 is a good idea, it should at least be at 8:00. Studies have shown that schools who start later do worse in testing and performance, and schools who start earlier (7:20) have done better.

the only people that want a later start are the non athletes who don't have practice for hours after school

A 9:30 start wouldn't change my day it would just flip my day by forcing me to have practice for school sports in the morning. Because of this I may have to get up even earlier then I do now. I don't want to loose instruction time during the "transition year" that could effect the collages I get into either. I don't want this new system to be tested on me! Why not have the high schoolers start at 8:00 and the elementary schools start at 9:30. 8:00 is still an improvement and provides an extra 40 minutes of sleep!

I think changing the school start time to 9:00 or 9:30 is a bad decision. Student athletes need more sleep than the average student. By changing the start time to this late in the morning it would flip my day. I would be going to school at the same time in the morning and going to bed later with all my homework. So this wouldn't even benefit the most sleep deprived students. Also there would also be a decline in the amount of students participating in school sports and activities. Overall this is an awful idea.

If anything changes, I would not be able to keep my amazing job because of the lack of time after school. Getting home at 7-730 would leave us barely any time to get work done and study with a good nights sleep.

With so many high school students in sports (probably 50% of the student body or more), if the later start is approved these students may have to practice before school and be forced to wake up earlier then they do currently. We have two children at the high school and neither of them want the start time to be pushed any later if possible.

in all honesty having late starts is such a stupid idea. i would have no way of getting to school since I live out of the district and cannot drive myself. both my parents work and could not get me to school. it also costs so much money that I don't even know how my family and many other struggling families would be able to pay for it.. the system is fine as it is and I would never support the late start. if barrington changed its starting times I would probably be forced to transfer schools

It's very inconvenient for most of the people who have sports after school.

This ruins many people lives. It ruins sports and the high schoolers wouldnt get out in time to babysit/watch younger children if parents work. The younger people would out earlier than high schoolers causing them to stay home alone.
