The institutional racism of the federal government has commercialized the African American's true heritage through rap music and "Hypebeast", which undermines the cultural identity of the black body. Only an epistemological reorientation through an academic space can change the cultural norms of how blacks are treated; the academic literature should be where culture identity branches from. The ontology of the general public of America is simply put it, F**Ked up, as we often see black bodies as "undesirable", or "lit", or "yeah, I have that black friend, so it is okay for me to say "N****r ". This should be changed, as we transition into the next generation. Only an open scholarship space, like college education should solve for such crippling cultural disaster of misinterpretation of black people. Thus we should support Clement's brave action to establish a black study into Gen-Ed history option, to take a step towards a right direction for betterment of society.

I, alongside thousands of other Mason students who share my identity, deserve to have our history pulled from the archives and placed in the forefront of our education alongside Western history. We deserve a comprehensive and thoughtful curriculum; we deserve to see our ancestors engaged in acts of agency beyond the traditional narrative of victimhood imposed on us.

I'm required to learn American History but it doesn't include the good things Black Americans have done for America except for slavery. I'd like to learn about my own history without having to spend extra money to do it.

African-American History is also U.S History. I believe it is important to have the option to get the full picture of US History which includes the narratives of African Americans and their history.
