In 2005, Florida adopted a constitutional amendment which entitled all 4-year olds to a high-quality early childhood education delivered by both public and private early learning practitioners. Since that time, the program has sustained annual budget reductions that overlook its intent, jeopardize its existence and decimate instructional quality. We, the undersigned, call upon our legislators to save Voluntary Pre-K from any further budget attacks by adopting the House 2010-2011 Budget recommendations that hold the Base Student VPK Allocation at $2,549 (1% reduction) and maintain developmentally appropriate teacher:student ratios of 1:10.
