I was one of those kids who didn't have the hot lunches. Now that my daughter is in school I want her to be able to eat a hit meal. This is an amazing initiative

No better way to support our NYC youth than making sure they all get proper nutrition. There are MANY kids out there who aren't eating school lunch because they simply don't have the option to, despite qualifying for free lunch.

I have two children who go hungry almost everyday because they cannot eat the public school system food due to not being halal. They also say dad how come everyone enjoys lunch while go hungry and then are forced to go to the library during lunch time while other children gain nutrition while we’re still hungry and challenged to focus in class. Please Mr. DiBlasio expand all public schools to offer halal and kosher meals so the children feel the school system cares about everyone.

Yes, please it’s about time change take place in the school cafeterias. No more children going hungry. My child is in jr high and he keeps himself hungry for through out the school day watching other children devour their lunch. Where is justice in that? So please give our kids chance to have halal lunches too.

I wish this was available when I attended NYC public school. My Muslim friends and I often skipped lunch because there were no Halal options and would come home starving. I currently work at a NYC public school and the Muslim students there do the same. Some have packed lunches, but other's just go without food.

Wish we had this option growing up. Also as a mom, it would make mornings less hectic if we had the choice to let our kids have school lunch instead of having to pack every morning.

We request halal foods for our kids as it is an essential part of their diets and when it it not available, our kids sometimes skip lunch which is not healthy.
