Adolescence Obesity

Are you concerned about child obesity in New Zealand?
We are Macleans College students who are campaigning to influence policy change to the New Zealand Curriculum. 1 in 8 children aged 6-14 in New Zealand are classified as obese; 1 in 5 children are classified as over a healthy weight/BMI. Currently, New Zealand is ranked 2nd for adolescent obesity rate in Oceania, and 31st in the world.
We have recognised this issue and want to add an additional clause to all levels of the education curriculum in the Movement Concepts and Motor Skills - B. The importance of Health & Nutrition is scarcely covered during primary school and only covered in PE/PEA in Intermediate/College. As a lack of awareness of the growing rates of adolescent obesity, we aim to combat this by adding extra health and nutrition classes across all levels of New Zealand education.
If you are also concerned about the growing rate of child obesity in New Zealand support our social action by signing this petition!!
Thank you for your time,
Hamish and Alyssa
