Dear Professor Jackson/ examinations department,

This petition has been set up to express our concern regarding the provisional exam date of LL201 - Administrative Law - which has been scheduled for May 18th.

We feel that our exam performance in this subject will be greatly hindered by the early start date owing to fact that a significant amount of time over the Easter vacation will be dedicated to the completion of the assessed essay component, which accounts for 25% of the overall grade. This is time that could otherwise have been spent on exam revision. We appreciate that other subjects have a required coursework element, but within the law faculty, Administrative Law is the only subject where the submission date is after Easter.

Administrative Law has always been one of the last exams and we had expressly been informed of the near certainty of the subject having a June examination date by our seminar teacher. Having a later exam date would be a fairer reflection of the fact that much of the Easter vacation is spent completing the assessed essay.

The second years among us also have two other examinations within that same week - Property II and EU-  and the finalists have Jurisprudence the following day. The close proximity of these exams is a further cause of anxiety for us and a reason we feel our exam performance will be enhanced by a later start date.

Given that the exam timetable is as yet provisional and that we have expressed our concerns, which are entirely legitimate, at an early stage we hope that the date of the exam may be moved to June. We appreciate that the logistical element must be considered, but as there are only nine students enrolled, we do not feel that this will offer timetabling much difficulty. Indeed, last year the Criminal Law examination was moved and this was a compulsory course with over a hundred students.

In summation, we believe that having an early start date will impede our exam performance owing to the reduced amount of revision time we have available over the vacation due to the coursework component. As Director of LLB programme, we therefore plead with you to change the date of the examination.

The undersigned.
