We as a student body would like to direct your attention to the matter of the Amendments test. While it is important to educate our society with the laws we are to abide by we believe testing and grading on the subject is not necessary. We realize that knowing and understanding these amendments is important however requiring students to memorize 27 amendments and being able to recite them in such a short period of time seems unfair. We would like to point out several observations made by other students in our class: • It can be very stressful and difficult for some students to memorize so much information at this time of year as most are overwhelmed anticipating matters such as prom, graduation, and college. • "Senioritis" has most of the senior population struggling to focus enough to properly study such material this close to summer. • Allowing this petition to pass would automatically make you the coolest teacher to ever walk the halls of Emmaus High School. If you are in any way concerned that we are not sufficiently educated in the matter of our amendments we would like you to take note in the fact that by writing and signing this we are exercising our 1st amendment rights which entitle us to: 1. Practice our own choice of religion. 2. Assemble in public places and join which groups we want to. 3. The freedom of press. 4. The right to Petition which allows citizens to make complaints or seek assistance without fear of punishment. 5. Freedom of speech. We are also aware of most of the amendments as most are considered common knowledge and are so frequently advertised by the media. Our recommendations are: • Not requiring us to complete this test for a grade, if at all. • Reviewing this information as a class for one last refresher and then moving on to the next unit (optional) Many of us, your students, have a lot to study for and keep up with at this time of year. Relieving us of this test would GREATLY reduce the amount of stress on us making our lives a lot easier. Your consideration in this matter would be greatly appreciated by the students in your class.
