All educators and teachers need to receive training on signs of dyslexia. As a parent of a dyslexic child who wasn’t diagnosed until high school, I feel the school system failed my child. Despite requests to have my child tested because ‘something wasn’t right’ and the ‘concern’ I expressed regarding her ability to read, I was shut down. Dyslexia was diagnosed when I had my child privately evaluated, and even then when I approached the high school principal they shot me down, but I had the evaluation already completed. Countless teachers over the years and teachers who had Masters Degrees in Literacy who tutored my child year after year, had no idea as to the warning signs of dyslexia. It is sad, but I know there are many stories just like mine.

It amazes me how much educators don't know about dyslexia. It's really such a disservice to or children who are slipping through the cracks and taking a huge blow to their self esteem.
