Please add an additional second grade class at Prospect elementary next year, 24 students per class is simply too many.

Although my kids are in a different d181 school, I support this as a district wide concern. My neighbors have been asking for smaller class sizes as long as I've been a part of the community! I have one child who gained a 3rd section only weeks before the school year & another child who is in a class of 24 while the other teacher has been out on personal leave for most of the year adding to our teacher's work load. Smaller classes seem to be very necessary

Class sizes should be uniform throughout the district and within Prospect. The 2015-2016 3rd grade class is also on the high end of the D181 range, with 71 students in three sections.

I request for the appropriate size of class size. We moved here and pay a lot for property tax, we expect our children to receive the proper attention and education care.

A wealth of research demonstrates that students' learning and achievement is strongly impacted by class size, particularly at the younger ages. Specifically, significant gains in achievement are seen when class size is reduced to less than 20 students per teacher. The fact that any schools in our (supposedly strong) school district should have student/teacher ratios at or above the upper end of what is considered acceptable is alarming. However, the added fact that students in certain schools within the district will face ratios of 1:24 while others will be in classrooms with ratios of 1:17, is unacceptable. At a minimum, the district must achieve an equitable allocation of resources (in this case, teachers) across the schools and students within the district.

This must be a board priority to support our children! Our students deserve a smaller classroom size. With the increase in the academic demands and new learning initiatives and noisy classrooms, we are putting our children at a disadvantage in a larger classroom. Research has demonstrated that smaller class sizes has boosted academic achievements and has produced greater benefits for the children.

If more is demanded of our teachers and students, as it is with the Learning for All initiative, new math program, increased ELL population and differentiation, it must be a Board priority to support them! The research shows time and again that the biggest bang for your buck, when it comes to school spending is smaller class sizes in grades K-3.

We do have a disproportionate share of ELL in our current 1st grade class, therefore, we require smaller classrooms to address these needs.

Current class size guidelines do NOT work with the emphasis on differentiation and the Learning for All initiative. We must address this issue.
