I support pickleball. There's a huge representation of pickleball players in Charlottesville. It's good for the community, it encourages fitness and it's fun for all ages.

I have worked and lived in Charlottesville/Albemarle area for over 36 years, not including my four years at UVA. I have been a very active member of the sports community, both playing and coaching. As I have aged, I still work to stay active. However, as most senior citizens, I have to look for some less stressful activities. I recently found out about pickleball through the Senior Center. I attended my first session last week in the downtown rec center. It was fantastic. In just an hour of beginner play, I got a good workout. This game can be played at many levels and speeds. My biggest disappointment was that after the one hour beginner class, there were so many players of all ages waiting to play that I couldn't get in any additional time. This area needs some additional facilities for pickleball and I think once the words starts to spread, you will see some very significant participation by the local senior population.

I've played pickleball for 4 1/2 years. The first year I played outdoors all winter at Tonsler Park where we had to chalk the lines to play and deal with the net being too high. It is a great game for all ages, but a particularly great game to keep the older adult moving! I am 78 and enjoy the competitive aspects as well as the social aspects of the game. I had to give up tennis because of a shoulder problem. I hope we can get dedicated outdoor courts eventually with lights so that those who are working can come out and enjoy the game in the evening.

Pickle ball is a sport to be enjoyed by all types of people of all fitness levels. The groups I am familiar with are inclusive and community minded. I've watched the ability to play it change people's lives in lots of ways. Lots of folks can come and join right in, making friends in a setting that is fun and friendly. Please make a place for the players that will reflect how important and fun this game is to so many people in our community. Thank you!

I support the plan to add Pickleball courts to Darden Towe Park. More and more residents are playing this sport and, as taxpayers, are entitled to have public facilities where they can play.

Many former tennis players now enjoy Pickleball. It is a fast growing sport nationwide; our community needs to support this growing sport that is enjoyed by all ages.

Pickleball is a very community-oriented sport and deserves City and County support.
It is great for ages 8-80, encourages intergenerational connections and can also be enjoyed by people with a wide range of physcial abilities.
It is easily learned and is a group activitiy, which supports diverse members of the community interacting on a regular basis. Pickleball is good for the community.
Providing picleball venues supports more physical activity for a wider spectrum of the community.
It has been written up in every major paper and reported on through most major television networks across the country. Its popularity in the Charlottesville area has been growing and more places to play are needed. Please support this!

Pickleball continues to grow rapidly nationally and also with the Albemarle County area. It is necessary for our county to keep pace with this healthy trend and make available public Pickleball facilities, such as Darden Towe Park and eventually Pen Park, for its citizens.

I don't think it is unreasonable to ask for one tennis court out of the 74 public tennis courts in this area to make 4 dedicated Pickleball courts. Currently there are 0 dedicated Pickleball courts. I believe that Pickleball and tennis communities can work together to provide these two great recreational activities in our area.
