Add mental health and wellness courses into school curriculum.
The mental health and wellness of one's being is the sole foundation of every action and decision that follows. To be able to deal with life's curveballs in a healthy manner, your emotional, mental, and physical health and wellness matters significantly. Middle and high school students are at the age where mental issues can develop depending on environment and lifestyle. In order for students to achieve their academic goals, their quality of life has to be in order. Distractions occur, problems happen, and stress takes over. Students may not have an outlet to tend to this area of their lives, and may need guidance while discovering who they are through their mental health.
If there are mental health and wellness courses added into the school curriculum, we may begin to witness a change in the younger generations. Simply knowing about mental health, where to get help, and knowing how to take care of yourself can benefit a young person as they can use this knowledge as they age and strengthen their skills for keeping their mental health at its best during rough times. If these courses are not added into the curriculum, we may continue to see young children and adults falling into depression and not knowing how to deal with their mental health. Students may begin to prioritize school, sports, and other people over their own well being, or may feel the urge to give up. Without guidance built into their every day classes at school, they will have to navigate their mental health alone, which can be very hard, and even impossible for some.
In today's world, we have many issues societally, economically, and culturally. It becomes more important every day to make sure students have the resources they need in order to become thoroughly educated individuals with drive, passion, and force. The world needs informed leaders that can steer it into a better light. The generations that will follow the current times are important, in fact, we will depend on them. We can start with a small petition, and research any organizations fighting for the addition of mental health and wellness courses into school curriculums.
