7th and 8th grade students at Ross A. Lurgio Middle School who are gifted or advanced in English/language arts deserve a higher-level class. This would be a step toward equity with math instruction, where students have four leveled classes available to them.

I have been hearing from so many families who feel like their children are hitting a wall in these classes. My own child deserves a curriculum that challenges them just as much as the math track does. We are gathering the research to present to the school board because our students should not be left waiting for high school to find that engagement.

Seeing the momentum behind this request is overwhelming because I know how much my own child needs this level of challenge in the classroom. This growth proves that so many other families feel this same gap in our current school system.

I whole-heartedly support having a more advanced ELA option and/or ELA enrichment options at Lurgio. Seems like a no-brainer.
This is needed for our kids. They have advanced options before Lurgio and then have no advanced class options. The newspaper is not sufficient as it does not interest all kids, and it is not offered during school hours as a class replacement.
As both an educator and a parent of two BSD students, I fully support this option!! I was surprised to learn that it wasn't already a part of the curriculum, to be honest.
We need to encourage students who do well in areas other than Math. So offering higher level classes for advanced ELA students is very important. Thanks.
Lurgio students should have the same enrichment opportunities offered at our other Bedford schools.
Interested in having honors level reading classes at Lurgio!

I moved from Michigan - we had honors math, language arts, social studies and science in middle school on.
