First, allow me to quote Lt. Col. Jeff Cooper, USMC;

"If violent crime is to be curbed, it is only the intended victim who can do it. The felon does not fear the police, and he fears neither judge nor jury. Therefore what he must be taught to fear is his victim."

Citizens of Savannah, Ga. the fight against violent crime and neighborhood crime is escalating. The city and the police cannot fight this battle without our help. This is going to require TEAMWORK between the police department and Savannah's citizens. THIS IS A CALL TO ACTION. RESPONSIBLY. That's why, as an effort to ensure a lasting relationship between local law enforcement and our people, a closer community with safer neighborhoods for our children, I propose that Savannah's own law enforcement provide a free "Active Citizen Safety Course" made available by the dedicated officers of Savannah Chatham Metropolitan Police Dept.

In this program officers would volunteer to participate in a rotating weekend shift, and will train local citizens on how to safely and accurately handle their weapon, as well as how to handle themselves in stressful situations where their actions could mean life or death for themselves or a fellow citizen. It is imperative that we become trained in our abilities to protect eachother. We do not want our citizens in harms way, but when violence is filling our streets, we must be taught how to defend ourselves and our neighbors against it. We want to encourage our people to connect with their neighbors, especially in crime stricken areas, forming an Active Neighborhood Watch willing to halt and notify proper authorities of criminal activity.

Citizens participating in the program would present valid Ga ID or their Concealed Carry permit and may purchase target sheets from the Dept. for $1 a sheet and would use the local Precincts range. The Active Citizen Safety Course and an Active Neighborhood Watch (trained through the program) would encourage gun owners in the community to not only get trained in the safety and handling of their weapon, but in halting crimes, staying in contact with proper authorities and acting as a team with local law enforcement.

We need to unite ourselves. Please sign this petition and support this proposal in training our citizens to become active in this fight against violent crime. It is, after all, the responsibility of all of us, to keep our families safe. Even if you are are not from the Savannah area, I still recommend you signing this petition and leaving your city and state in the comments section.
