This is a petition in which you may pledge to take power, pledge to act in service to public health and the environment. Hydraulic Fracturing is a means of extracting natural gas from the Marcellus Shale that runs through parts of West Virginia, Ohio, Pennsylvania, and New York. The negative impact on the environment caused by massive levels of pollution are only more devastatingly felt in the sphere of public health. And so by signing this pledge you have not only shown your willingness to educate yourself on the issues which may seem beyond your realm of control, but also add to the thousands of voices which constitute the electorate for whom the policymakers work. Educate, embolden and most importantly: take action.

You can:

-Write a letter to Governor Cuomo in which you express your beliefs about hydraulic fracturing while also strengthening the movement against the practice.

-Get vocal online! Add to the collective consciousness. Something as simple as posting the link to a relevant documentary such as "Gasland" as your status helps disseminate and educate.

-Join an anti-fracking group and be a face in the crowd. You're mug matters, and though Cuomo may not be able to see you from the back of Capitol Park, he will hear the message of the mob.

-Go public. Come out in support of the movement. Stick a no frack sign in your front lawn. Though it may seem trivial, it is a way of staying connected to the issue and continuously lending your support. Wear a button or make posters, anything to raise the issue in the public consciousness.

In signing this pledge you acknowledge your capacity to make change. You agree to take action no matter how small. Alone we appear feeble, but together we are a force.
