SBC finally blinked and backed down from their ridiculous taxi scheme. We stopped them from running a monopoly on our livelihoods. Stay sharp though because we need to keep watching these bureaucrats to make sure they do not try this again.

We are acting against SBC's proposal to force ALL Taxi's to be MOT'd by them!

Reasons:

  • It is effectively a cartel, maintaining prices at a high level and restricting competition.
  • It will remove £42,000 from our local garages (Based on 600 vehicles, MOT'd twice a year at £35 per MOT)
  • It will promote a negative image of our local garages, suggesting that their MOT's are not worthy nor reliable.
  • The council do not have the resources to MOT 600 vehicles within the 8 weeks they allow us, and therefore taxi's services will be impacted.

SBC is trying to run a monopoly on our livelihoods and we are almost at 100 signatures to prove them wrong. Do not let them ignore us now. Get this link to someone else immediately so we can hit that mark and force them to address this garbage policy.

Autodiesel employs 3 MOT testers. Taxi MOT make up a percentage of all MOT we carry out. If SBC takes all Taxi tests in house it will have an effect on our business and may lead to unnecessary redundancies. A O'Neil. Managing Director. Autodiesel Ltd.

One of the most ridiculous things I have ever seen and non sensical If SBC are stipulating that MOT qualified mechanics are not able to for whatever reason to MOT taxis then how are they able to MOT the thousands of other cars in the Borough? This can only be down to an income generating ploy-

Scarborough council don't have the mechanics that are required to carry out these inspections so more money has to be spent SBC always say shop local so why are they going to take trade away from local garages,

I get the feeling that this is a revenue generation exercise resulting from local authorities budget cuts 40% - the long term result will be small businesses closing and reduced tax income .

Operating a cartel in s place as small as Scarborough is both unethical and descriminatory. If you are unconvinced of safety of MOT then institute more thorough monitoring system. Local garages depend upon local custom/ I anticipate a franchise will be created for which only large concerns could bid, Poor SBC

Local garages rely on local work. It would be a great shame if they lost out to a local government scheme. If this does go through which I hope it doesn't are they going to work late Saturdays and all day Sundays for those who work day shifts through the week ?

If SBC has no confidence in the existing MOT testing stations they should be addressing the problem and not opening their own test stations as a side line!

the revenue that local garages will loose will result in job losses and will have an impact on what people think on mot stations. we look after taxis it will have an impact on our revenue sbc taking more trade away from whitby its not just the mot its the inconvience of local taxi having to travel to scarbrough if they fail and thay have to go back how are they going to fit this in the time scale
