While the overwhelming need for higher education funding is vastly recognized by all, we (the undersigned) would like to call attention to the Access Missouri Financial Assistance Program. While well-intentioned, the program provides twice as much money to students going to a private university as it does to students going to a public university. While costs may be higher, there are several great public school universities in the state of Missouri to attend, and since the Access Missouri Financial Assistance Program is a government-run program, we feel it imperative that the program support state-run universities as much as privately owned universities. We urge our legislators to alter the program in one of two ways. The first option is to change the scholarship to provide an equal amount of funding regardless if a student chooses a private or a public education. The other option is to provide incentives to chose a public education.
