what a fabulous idea, these type of parks should've been available years ago. So many special needs children would benefit, what fun for them.

Every kid deserves access to unadulterated fun. I was happy to see our local park add a swing set recently, but that's not enough. Kids of all ages and abilities should be able to head up to their local amusement park and go on rides and play in the water park without restrictions. Please help make this a reality for so many deserving families!

Hi Brian,
Thanks for signing and for your comments. I think Great Escape and The Play Land definitely make a true effort to be as accessible as possible and we're actually hoping one of those parks may be interested in undertaking a project similar to Morgan's Wonderland.
There are a few key features that set a facility like Morgan's Wonderland apart. Rather than trying to make existing rides and exhibits accessible, the entire park was designed with accessibility and inclusion in mind. The park limits daily visitors to keep the environment calm and safe for individuals who struggle with crowds. Families are encouraged to bring their own picnic meals to keep costs down - the park is a non-profit.
Probably the single greatest feature is the water park. Water parks are so appealing to children but rarely accessible to those with physical disabilities. Morgan's Wonderland provides special wheelchairs for individuals who need them, so that they don't ruin their own chairs. They can modify water temperature for individuals with medical needs. All of the water features are accessible. It's really remarkable!
As someone who's worked in the field of special education for over 15 years, I've never seen a place that appears to work so hard to be inclusive. I've taken my students to local amusement parks and fairs. They truly care, and try their best, but there is so much our kids can't do there. We can do better, and my students with special needs deserve better!

I sign this petition because I agree with all of the statements made, however I do feel Capital Region Fun Parks "Great Escape" and "Huck Finn's Play Land" do a great job with making their parks accessible. Could they do more... Perhaps? Since this petition is still new, I'd like to see its organizers add specifics as to what current or future Capital Region Fun Parks should do to increase accessibility.

Every child should be able to use an amusement park… It's amazing that this isn't taking into consideration when being built !!!!
