Kwenda Collegiate Girls Charter School is a proposed K-8th grade college preparatory, all-girls, tuition-free public charter school for the young women of Brooklyn, NY.
We know that girls' schools have transformational impact on their alumnae. Currently, only 1% of young women in the United States graduate from girls' schools; however, a staggering 1 in 4 Congresswomen are alumnae of girls' schools. New York City is home to some of the most successful and storied single-gender independent schools in the country. Yet, there is only one existing public elementary all-girls school in the entire borough of Brooklyn. Kwenda Collegiate Girls strives to be an additional high-quality option for families and students seeking a single-gender, college preparatory setting.
Our Mission: Kwenda Collegiate Girls Charter School educates young women in kindergarten through eighth grade in an academically rigorous, structured, and supportive community that prepares all students to graduate from college with the courage to lead.
I am signing this petition to affirm that I have read Kwenda Collegiate Girls' mission, I believe in this mission, and I would like to see Kwenda Collegiate Girls open as a free, public charter school in the fall of 2024.

I went to an all girls school (hello, The Baldwin School!) and it completely changed my life for the better. Some of my best friendships are still my friends from Baldwin. It taught me to think creatively, independently and confidently. I am so here for this!
I learned and thrived at an all-girls school in NYC, and am forever grateful for that opportunity and experience. It gave me confidence, leadership skills and an amazing education, but I was incredibly lucky to receive it via a generous financial aid system. I'd love to see this opportunity extended to more girls growing up in NYC, not just a lucky few.
I went to Wellesley and I know how it changed my life. But, these girls shouldn't have to wait until college. Give them these opportunities now. The world is changing and it's THESE girls who are America's future. We see what "ignorance in power" looks like. Open Kwenda now.
As an alumna of of Lincoln School in RI & Wellesley College in MA I am a strong advocate for single-sex education for girls & women! BRAVA! Go for it, Kwenda in Brooklyn!
I teach at a college that was formerly all women's (until recent years) and many students regret the change. It DOES make a difference.
I fully support this effort and wish you the best of luck. This sounds like an amazing opportunity for so many.

This is a no brainer for NYC education— assistant principal in TX born and raised in Brooklyn.
