Vets need access to compounded medicines to treat their patients

I absolutely require being able to compound medicines that my patients can access and take.

I work in a shelter and we definitely need access to compounded medications. There are some drugs for example cisapride for cats with megacolon, that can only be accessed as a compounded medication as they are not commercially manufactured any more

As a veterinarian, it is vital to be able to access emergency medications to ensure animal welfare is maintained. Some of the medications that would be affected by this legislation are vital to reduce anxiety and aggression in highly anxious animals to allow veterinary staff to handle these patients safely without stress for the animal or injury to the veterinarian. In many cases there are no alternatives available to purchase. Please reconsider this legislation. Animals will suffer as a consequence.

Compounded medications fill important gaps in the veterinary pharmacy. Emergency supplies are necessary to avoid delays in treatment which could markedly impact patient health and welfare, as well as (in some cases) the safety of staff and other handlers.
