Academic Freedom for Contingent Faculty
Moraine Valley Community College employees 69% non-tenure track contingent faculty; these teachers, who are responsible for the first steps in our community's higher education, should not be treated as disposable resources. Because they are at-will employees, they can be fired at any time for any reason - including no reason at all. This stifles the academic freedom necessary for an evolving society. The use of a mostly contingent workforce hurts education and exploits people who have dedicated their lives to teaching.
