To Mr/Ms Arbitrator: I am a Flight Attendant with our nation's airline, Air Canada. The purpose of this particular petition is to make you aware of our unique working conditions so that despite what our corporation and executives say, we are under severe duress. We, as members of a nationally recognized union membership, recognize the fact that the present Progressive Conservative government, under its federal jurisdiction, has done everything it can in order to subvert our constitutional rights in order to collectively bargain for our fair rights in order to negotiate for a liveable wage, given our employers publicly stated profit margins. Please understand that we as the workers do not seek to undermine our employer's profit margins. We simply ask that we partake of an equal share in it, as we did during past concessionary periods such as immediately after the 9/11 crisis, or the SARS crisis, and so on... To truly put it into perspective for you, our most junior employees live well below the poverty line for their first 3 years of employment with the company. Unless they have alternate methods of financial support, they will continue to be a burden on our social service system. As for the rest of the workers, how can they continue to be a part of our nation's productive economy if their wages cannot even begin to keep up with the nation's inflation levels? I fail to see how these workers can continue to keep up with the nation's GDP. Please, think about these issues when considering how the front-line workers for our nation's "flagship carrier" continue to carry out their jobs, day in and day out. Sincerely, Mari Naito
