Mr. President, The relentless effort of Oguta UK Association and your recent publication in Oguta goggle group is a demonstration of deep commitment to transform Oguta into an egalitarian society where unity and love reign. A famous igbo proverb says " Agbakota aka nyuo mmamiri ogbo ufufu" connotes " If all efforts are brought together, the desired goal will be achieved". Mr. President, the idea of signing a petition is OK, but in practice such exercise has proved abortive in many respects. What most communities that abolished Osu practice does is to meet the village heads (Ndi-Okpara) as representative of the villages, and discuss with them. After the discussion, Ndi- Okpara will sign a document evidencing their total support. In the same vein, Ndi-ichie, and Igwe will sign such document. The association that champions the abolition cause will publish the resolution reached with the traditional institution to the people. Then the Igwe of the community will choose a cultural event day of the town and abolish the practice. Eze Enyeribe Onuoha, the traditional ruler of Umuchieze autonomous community in Imo state urged his community members to abandon the Osu practice when the traditional institution signed a communique for the abolition of Osu. On the day of abolition, he said “discrimination against Osus is irrational, illegal, unjust and archaic and opposed to human rights...It is one Umuchieze tradition that should immediately be abolished." In the same manner, Igwe of Nkwere community in Imo state, Igwe Nwafor Urizu of Nnewi, and Igwe of Alor, Igwe of Nnobi communities in Anambra state and many other communities in igboland that followed the same strategy. It is my humble suggestion that your office and Team should consider Emmanuel Uzokwe idea as a sine qua non towards the Ohu abolition in Oguta. Dear President Val: Onyeokeye if i may ask what does the Eze-igwe mean by testing the appetite of Oguta people? to me i think that this is to show that the Eze-igwe will not accept the finite disappointment of our fore-fathers in this complicated issue,but we the present generation in Oguta must never lose infinity hope,i believe that with tireless exertions and passionate concern of dedicated individuals we can achieve this,because the arc of the moral-universe is long ,but it bends towards justice......enough of all this segregation.

I strongly believe in the equality of all humans created by God. I have also kept my relationship with my so called "Ohu" friends both at Age Grade level and in Raleigh, North Carolina, USA. I therefore sign on to be a party to peaceful abolition of this inhuman practice in Oguta Ameshi.

If you believe in God speak out about this injustice or be guilty of the sin of silence. What do we think of our sons and daughters from Oguta who married black Americans, brought to the U.S. as slaves and bore children for us? Are their children slaves or free borne? This is a humanity issue. Martin Luther King fought for the rights of blacks in the U.S. This is our fight, the fight for human rights. The world is watching to see how we handle this issue.
