PETITION TO ABOLISH THE ELECTORAL COLLEGE IN FAVOR OF A NATIONAL POPULAR VOTE
To: U.S. Congress / State Legislators / The President / Representatives
We, the undersigned,believe in the fundamental democratic principle that every vote should carry equal weight, regardless of geographic location. The current Electoral College system undermines this principle by allowing a small number of swing states to disproportionately determine the outcome of presidential elections.
The Electoral College:
Uses swing States for its advantage in the election process.
Disregards the will of millions of voters in "safe" states.
Allows a candidate to win the presidency without winning the popular vote.
Distorts campaign strategies, focusing attention on a handful of battleground states.
We believe it is time for a change.
We call upon Jeffery M. Borne, Senate and John Maguire, Congress of the state of Virginia to support:
A constitutional amendmentto abolish the Electoral College and establish a direct popular vote for the people.
