Abbotsham Road Access Issues

I know signing this is a waste of time. SWW and the council couldn't give a monkeys about the inconvenience.

5 months seems far too long given the size of the development and the fact that many developers tackle this issue with traffic lights rather than a total closure.

The prolonged closure of this very significant access road in and out of Bideford is totally unacceptable. It has been running alongside other closures and significant road works on Bay View Rd , Atlantic Way and Golf Links Rd. It impacts the whole community, particularly when access to two schools is involved. It plays into the hands of the developers - the length of this disruption from Autumn to March suggests the Highways dept have no regard for the residents of this town.

Who is responsible for the road closure please?

Moreton Park Road has become an absolute nightmare especially with school coaches destroying the road, school hour the road is horrendous!

A road, not a storage facility

I live on College park and am finding these works to be unacceptable due to the length of the works. I travel to St Helen’s in Abbotsham twice a day for school drop off and pick up. What is normally a 5 minute journey now take up to half an hour. Plus the additional fuel costs. The diversion is not fit for the volume of traffic having to use it and the roads are clogged up with traffic trying to get through. Any other routes are also as bad and even longer. Any other journeys we need to take also mean driving into town to get anywhere rather than being about to join the A39 from Abbotsham road. Where was the consideration to local residents when this road closure was agreed?

I live at Hughes Gardens, College Park and take and collect my grandson from St Helens school everyday. Normally it is just over a mile each way and takes 3 to 4 minutes, but with the road closure it is now a 8 mile round trip and takes 20 to 30 minutes in each direction due to the volume of traffic. Not only is this a impact on the environment it is also a large increase to my weekly fuel bill.

Completely unnecessary

Does the planning department realise the road options that have been left to us to be able to exit college park. The roads are no more than tracks full of pot holes. We have a brand new car and the alloys have been ruined because of people not keeping to their side of the road and therefore making us scrape the curb.

The closure might not be so bad if all the alternative routes weren't so '3rd World' in there standard, i.e. appaulling road surfaces and clogged with parked vehicles.

Absolutely ridiculous timescale given to the contractors for such minor work in comparison, and who convinced the council that the road had to stay completely closed, Paul McKenna??

I use this road daily and also live in Moreton Park Road where traffic has been diverted, the amount of traffic along a residential street is ridiculous, it is constant, some drivers are aggressive and don’t give way, It is noisy and dangerous at times due to impatience. Abbotsham Road is a vital link for so many. this has been badly thought out with lack of knowledge of the road or consideration for locals infavour of greed and yet another housing estate we don’t need or want.
