As i use the road a lot definitely more lay bys

We lead in almost all things !! Why are we being left out of these vital improvements ?.

HGVs have much better braking systems nowadays compared to when the 40mph was introduced

It makes sense for safety reasons

Speed limit must be the same North and South if the border. There is enough prejudice against the Highlands and Islands already !

Should be on all A roads 40 is a joke and near causes accidents from cars trying to over take

England Law is now 50mph so it's ridiculous that Scotland has still got the 40mph limit that was set years ago!

England have raised the speed limit for hgv's to 50mph on duel and single carriageway roads. Scotland should make things equal and do it too....also more laybys are needed on longer stretches...

it needs done. Its a good enough road for HGV to sit at 50 or faster. Am on this road twice a day for a good hour and i dont want to see a crash because cars are over taking on corners or small straights that they dont know what coming the other way.

David Stewart's has a statement online that provides more information in support of his petition : Highland MSP disappointed with Government response to his A96 initiatives Highlands & Islands (Including Moray) MSP, Shadow Transport Minister and road safety campaigner, David Stewart has indicated that he is disappointed with the response from the Government to his appeal to consider increasing speed limits for HGVs on the A96 Inverness – Aberdeen road from 40mph to 50mph. David Stewart has previously highlighted many times that he firmly believes that frustration is a cause of many road collisions. “ When the red mist comes down, drivers unfortunately take a course of action or try and complete a manoeuvre that is not appropriate and this type of driver behaviour is an area we need to target”, he said. In relation to the A96, David Stewart has previously campaigned with the NFU to raise awareness amongst the farming community of the dangers caused by frustration when drivers of slow moving vehicles fail to pull over and let faster vehicles passed. At the same time he was always keen to educate the public at large about the needs of farmers to be able to freely travel on our road networks. At the time of this campaign it was highlighted that there was a distinct lack of laybys on the A96 for slow moving vehicles to pull over. This fact was accepted by Transport Scotland. Speaking this afternoon, David Stewart said : “ It is clear to me that if we reduce frustration on our roads, then we reduce the risks. "If we can prevent long tail backs and keep traffic flowing then we will be some way towards addressing some of the adverse driver behaviour on our roads. “ I was asking the Government to look at increasing laybys along this route as this would allow more slow traffic to pull over. "However, the Government keep reminding me that they are going to dual 88 miles of this route. "What they fail to grasp is that the completion
