My husband and I live on Havana St. This situation is a nightmare. I totally agree with the requests. It will only be a matter of time before something seriously happens. The trucks and traffic are way to fast for this road.

30 mph is too fast for a residential road that children, walkers, and cyclist cross frequently everyday. People that live to the East of Iola and Havana must cross the street to reach the pool and play ground. We've already seen multiple vehicle accidents on Havana and Iola from speeders. Shame on us if a child gets run over crossing these streets on the way to the pool. Stapleton is losing its vision - what happened to a walking neighborhood?

While driving south on Havana, I was passed by a speeding truck going the wrong way on Iola. After nearly hitting my car, it went right through the stop sign at 26th without stopping.
These problems are the direct result of connecting the two neighborhoods.

I think speed bumps or dips would work better to slow people down on Iola and on 28th Ave. 30 mph is way too fast for narrow residential streets...Even MLK Blvd is 30 and it's more of a thoroughfare. The speed limit should be 25 mph. What is the speed limit on 26th Ave? What about a painted crosswalk with flashing lights for awhile to remind drivers to yield to pedestrians in the walkways? I thought that was a Colorado law but I'm not sure so I'll look that up and post what I find out. I do not want a light or a 4 way stop at this corner...The traffic noise will be louder than it is now as people stop, rev their motorcycles or cars and take off! We should all be following the existing speed limit signs and the traffic signs and watching out for our children who live on every block in Stapleton!

I have witnessed a couple of accidents at 28th & Iola St. I see daily cars, heavy trucks and even school buses traveling well over the speed limit in a hurry to get to I - 70 and elsewhere. There is no barrier to slow them down as they rush to get thru the lights at Iola and MLK. Many people including children use this intersection at 28th and Iola to get to the pool in the summer and it's dangerous crossing here. I saw last week a pedestrian crossing sign go up and am waiting to see if a crosswalk will be painted. The intersection really needs a 4 way stop sign to slow traffic down. It will only get worse as the Eastbridge shopping center is built and Iola will turn into a commercial traffic pattern rather than a peaceful neighborhood.

The comparable sections of Iola Street in Aurora (also a residential neighborhood) have regular stop signs to create a safer traffic pattern; we're in a neighborhood where kids walk to school and have no safe route to get there. Let's fix this.

I've witnessed a speeding car using the bike lane to pass another car on Havana! People drive crazy fast past our house.
