Dearest B2B Classmates,

I believe the bulk of us have (unofficially) graduated from SMU. We are all excited, but definitely not after seeing our final score for this module. For some of us, it affects our GPA band. For others, it may be your first C or D in your entire 4 years in SMU, or worse still, your entire life.

As you can see from the image shown (you can see for yourself on oasis too), more than 60% of the class have gotten Cs and Ds. That accounts for about 26 or 27 out of a class of 44 students getting poor grades. For the benefit of our Exchange students, a typical bell curve that our SMU profs use is skewed towards As and Bs, with approximately 30 - 35% of the cohort getting As, and 0 - 5% of students getting Cs. Very rarely would Profs issue Ds, and some generous Profs may even maximize the number of As given. This semester, my prof from my Management of People at Work class gave As to 35% of the cohort. The chart you see here is unheard of throughout the past 4 years of my undergrad studies.

I do think we deserve a fairer bellcurve since most, if not all of our Business school Profs, are using a far more reasonable bell curve to grade us. This implies that students taking this B2B Marketing module would be unnecessarily penalized on our GPA as compared to other students taking other business option modules.

If you feel the same way as I do, I implore each and every one of you to sign on this petition. For those who have secured an A, I believe that a better bellcurve would also NOT negatively impact your final grade in any way. In fact, your signature would help achieve fairness for this class and for future batches to continue benefiting from the learning of this course. Let's make this happen. Let's have all 44 of us sign this petition, and I will submit this to the Office of Registrar for them to look into this, and hopefully grant us an improved bellcurve.

For those wishing to improve your grades badly, kindly click on this link https://oasis.smu.edu.sg/psp/ps/EMPLOYEE/EMPL/h/?tab=SIS03_STUDY to get your appeal for grade review done. If you can't find the form to appeal, feel free to drop me an email at kristiesoon.2011@business.smu.edu.sg and I'll send the file over to you.

The deadline for appeal is this Wednesday, 13 May 2015. Let's get this petition signed by Tuesday, 12 April 2015, so that I can get the necessary paperwork done in time.

Thank you.

Yours sincerely,

Kristie
