A Regional Aquatic Center for Snoqualmie Valley: It's time for Si View, Snoqualmie, and SVSD to work together!

I'm in favor of a public pool and not opposed to something regional involving collaboration between the Si View MPD, City of Snoqualmie, and SVSD. I'm in favor of honesty and transparency regarding this goal (including being clear with potential tax payers on the cost of a regional pool -- because there will be one). The only way I know of to do this venture is to create an MPD under RCW 25.61.010 that roughly matches the footprint of the SVSD just for an aquatic facility (Tukwila has a special taxing district just for a pool). Speaking as a 6 year member of their Parks Board and 3 year member of their City Council, I doubt you will get the City of Snoqualmie to combine its considerable parks and open space assets with Si View MPDs parks properties all in one taxing district. That's why I say a pool-only MPD makes the most sense. I am equally in favor of Snoqualmie having it’s own community pool and Si View MPD having a new pool – and getting out of each other’s way rather than undermining each other’s individual bond efforts. That's also a form of collaboration that hasn't happened. I state this based on personal experience serving on the pro committee for the last two bond attempts in Snoqualmie where Si View MPD staff and supporters actively undermined Snoqualmie's campaign efforts with disinformation, which distroyed trust. That was over 15 years ago, but that sour memory lingers and doesn't help your efforts today. I’m truly curious if Si View MPD residents (representing 40% of the SVSD population) want a regional pool so badly that they would be OK with it being situated in Snoqualmie and throwing their tax dollars into a joint pot with Snoqualmie and Fall City residents to make that happen? I honestly don’t see this working valley-wide, if this ‘call to action’ for collaboration on a regional pool is all about getting the City of Snoqualmie’s population of 13,465 (30% of the SVSD) and Fall City area residents (another 10% of the SVSD) conceding a c

The Valley needs a competition pool that can be used by the Mount Si High School swim teams and other year-round swim programs with lessons for all ages. At LEAST 6 lanes, with diving blocks and a viewing area. The current rented outdoor pool for High School is not adequate for winter swim meets and closes often due to extreme weather and high winds.

This is an issue of health and safety for our community members. We whole heartedly support a new pool

Cooperation is the only path that mitigates financial harm to the citizens of the valley. The people need a voice in how their taxes are spent!

New, regional aquatics centers are in dire need in the area. These spaces most importantly allow staff to teach swim lessons to the public. Drowning deaths are abundant in the area due to our abundance of water in the area. Combine that need with the access to health and fitness for every age group, it's obvious we need more indoor aquatic facilities.

The City of Snoqualmie leadership needs to take a “public” Regional Pool seriously.

Thank you for doing this. This is the first time that I have heard someone address my concern that the pool built in collaboration with the YMCA would not be a public aquatic center, yet it would use public / tax funds. I can tell you first hand from working in the aquatics center for many years in 4 different YMCA’s in the Seattle area that they very much FOR PROFIT and have high membership costs. Yet they paid us very little for our jobs maintaining the pools, teaching / coaching and keeping patrons safe from drowning.

Yes to the aquatic center. Many benefits to development of the Valley youth for years to come.
