A petition to retain media degree courses at Ballyfermot College of Further Education
This petition is in response to suggested plans to remove and/or migrate media degree courses from Ballyfermot College of Further Education. We here assign our names to the principles that;
1. The financial imperatives of a large university or college often
restrict access to many individuals, by retaining media degree courses at
BCFE a vitally important place of access into degree level education can
be preserved. We feel that a degree course, which is often the base standard for many job roles in the media industry should remain at BCFE thus enabling a wider demographic of people to enter well paid employment.
2. Any discourse in relation to migration of courses must be in the best interests of the students effected. In that respect more dialogue between the student body and administration of the college is needed to further improve courses.
2. Degree courses when administered by a college of further education such as BCFE enable greater dialogue between students and teachers (than found in larger lecture halls at universities and colleges) which brings about greater understanding for students, an improvement in communication skills on behalf of students and more personable class sizes for teachers.
We here believe that these principles are not only in the interest of the student body, but also of the economy, the local community, and any democratic and equitable society.
