Whereas, the Louisiana State University Fighting Tigers qualified for the BCS National Championship Game in New Orleans, La. on January 9, 2012.

Whereas, LSU is a vital institution in the lives of many, many Louisianans.

Whereas, students, teachers, and other employees are apt either to not attend scheduled instructional time on January 9, 2012 or to have significantly reduced efficacy due to their attention being on the contest held that night.

Whereas, the Ascension Parish Public School System builds extra days into the calendar for extraordinary events such as hurricanes.

Whereas, no hurricanes necessitated the use of aforementioned days and winter weather is highly unlikely to do so.

Whereas, our Tigers would appreciate every Louisianan able to do so to be in New Orleans to support their state's flagship university on January 9, 2012.

We, the undersigned, hereby petition that the Ascension Parish Public School System follow the lead of Catholic High School and St. Joseph's Academy in Baton Rouge by declaring January 9, 2012 a school holiday for the purposes of supporting Louisiana State University. We ask that you respectfully consider our voices.
