There are over a billion cigarette smokers today. It is perhaps the single biggest cause of death. Millions have suffered painful death due to bad health impact of cigarettes.

We have tried generic packs as well as putting health warnings on cigarette packs. They had some impact. But we need to attack the problem from all fronts and need to take the fight against smoking to the next level.

Petition to Cigarette Companies & Regulators:

Please help smokers quit smoking by adopting these simple/ low cost measures

Please put a bold red ring marker at 50% of the cigarette stick. The moment a smoker takes out the cigarette from the pack, this marker reminds him/ her to try to stop smoking at the half way red mark. Surely not an insignificant number of smokers would put out the cigarette at half way mark.

In fact we should run a " Smoke Half Throw Half" campaign to encourage smokers to stop a half way mark.

For the rest a more radical approach is needed. Another bold black ring marker is put at say 70% of the cigarette stick. At this mark, cigarette simply stops burning.

Now smoker needs to light up again to continue smoking. For most this would be a bit of hassle and most would not light up again.

These two simple, cost effective steps would go a long way in weaning smokers away from smoking.

This petition is for regulators, govt.'s and above all for cigarette companies to incorporate these small changes.
