A Petition to Change Boston University’s Policy on Accepting Credit and Debit Card Purchases at Dining Locations on the Charles River Campus.
Boston University does not allow credit/debit card purchases
at several on-campus dining locations. At the George Sherman Union neither the
food court, Pinkberry or Starbuck franchise accepts items to be purchased with
credit or debit cards. Other locations including Einstein Bros. Bagel at the College of
Art and Science Building do not allow items to be purchased with credit or debit
cards.
The University’s reason to not allow credit and debit card scanners has to do with liability of stolen information and added expenses. Students, staff, and visitors’ only option is to pay by convenience/dining points or cash. Rejecting credit/debit cards at on-campus dining locations causes unnecessary inconvenience and wastes dining/connivance points. This petition’s goal is to raise support and show Boston University school officials that this change is necessary. Sign your name if you would like the University to change its policy on allowing these stores to accept credit/debt cards.

I spent another lunch hour at the George Sherman Union watching people struggle to find cash or empty out their dining points just to grab a quick coffee. The administration keeps pointing toward security concerns while ignoring the reality that we are the ones stuck carrying extra physical currency around our own campus.

Seeing this grow makes me realize I am not the only one frustrated by the constant scramble for cash or points at the GSU. It feels good knowing so many of you are tired of this outdated system. We are finally gaining enough momentum to force the administration to take our complaints seriously.

just let us pay with cards!! literally every other place on earth takes them
sometimes i dont have cash on me and not being able to use my debit card is a huge hassel

its so annoying when i run out of points and just want a coffee at starbucks without finding an atm
