The council has officially committed to the resurfacing and cycle lane project for Dale Road. I am deeply appreciative of the 701 people who stood behind these proposed safety measures. We must now remain observant to ensure the upcoming construction truly meets the needs of everyone who relies on this …

We, the undersigned believe that the condition of Dale Road, Southampton is unsafe for the large volume of cyclists that use this road daily to access the Southampton General Hospital.

We are very concerned about the frequency at which incidents are occurring and would like to see action from Southampton City Council to make conditions safer.

We would to see the following improvements:

· Complete road re-surfacing

· Regular maintenance to clear leaves, loose rocks/mud

· Install bike hazard signs to help alert drivers to be cautious and aware of cyclists

· Build in cycle lanes on both sides of the road

The momentum behind our request for safer conditions on Dale Road is building as we approach five hundred signatures. This number represents a collective recognition that the current state of the road is unsustainable for those traveling to the hospital. Please consider sending the link to someone who commutes this route so we can reach this threshold and strengthen our position with the council.

Reaching one hundred signatures shows that many people share the same daily concerns about the safety of our commute. This milestone confirms that we are not alone in noticing the hazards on Dale Road.

The steady growth of this petition shows how many of us rely on Dale Road each day for safe passage to the hospital. Reaching one hundred signatures will provide a clear baseline of concern as we prepare to present our case to the council. Please consider sending the link to two colleagues who travel this route to ensure our collective message carries the weight it deserves.

I had a terrible accident in 2013 while cycling in Dale Road (head injury- 2 months incapacitated). If the Council is promoting cycling (which is a great thing), the first step is to improve the road conditions, make them safe for cyclists..

Like many others, due to the poor public transport links and limited parking facilities, I cycle to & from work at the hospital every day. Dale Rd, along with many other roads around Southampton, are extremely dangerous for cyclists. The cycle "lane" is full of potholes, has poor drainage & is a death trap.

I have cycled this route for some 20 years. I now walk to work as I consider this road to dangerous to cycle on. I would say that this is also applicable to the many hundreds of staff who have to cycle to work.

Going uphill on Dale road as a cyclist, it is disturbing when the cycle lane disappears on the steepest part, on a corner which motorists cut and can not see round well. Extension of cycle lane definitely needed.

I too am a student nurse who cycles everyday to the hospital for placement. I have recently been pushing my bike down dale road for fear of getting a puncture at speed and having a nasty accident. Crossing at the top is also hazardous because of the speed of the cars who are unaware of cyclists.

A large number of students use this route to the hospital. It is currently a high risk route and the installation of cycle lanes would reduce the potential for injury to this vulnerable group of road users of whome my daughter a second year medic is one.

I use this once a week and it seriously needs resurfacing (and the junction onto Winchester rd too) and climber lanes added to each end of the very steep road.
