I think the Hyundai A-League should have a perpetual trophy that works similar to the Ranfurly Shield http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ranfurly_Shield The initial holders would be the A-League Premiers (currently West Sydney Wanderers) and they defend the trophy for all home matches. They pass the trophy on when they are beaten at hone during the regular season. When they are beaten the trophy goes to the successful challenger and continues on. The team that has the trophy at the end of the regular season continues with the trophy when the next season begins. All finals would be excluded from this format.
