Last year I gauged support for a gishwhes kickoff party and though the idea was well received it failed to pick up enough steam.

So this year I'm going to pitch the same idea, but this time with proof of interest via this online petition.

My idea would be to have some keep of online kickoff party the day before gishwhes would start. Here's how it would work:

Gishers would post motivating comments, pictures, tips, and other type of media on their favorite social media platform using the hashtag #gishwheskickoffparty2016. That way gishers could find each other by clicking on the hashtag.

This party would run for a full 24 hours leading up to the start of gishwhes. There is no need to take off work and gishers can participate at any time and any place by using the hashtag or searching for it.

This idea sounds too wacky, does it work? Has it been tested?

Yes actually it has, I have actually participated in this type of event before and it was very easy to do and see others posted material.

Commitment is low and there is no cost. Additional suggestions, like a fundraiser or contest is and will be up to the gish staff, but as it stands I am pitching a cost free idea. I am more than welcome to accept more ideas and changes to this event and welcome suggestions. I will gather those ideas up and include them in my proposal when I email the staff.

My goal is to get a thousand signatures and email this to the gishwhes staff by the start of spring so that the gishwhes staff have enough time for consideration.
