Please let us stay firm with these 3 points. It is very important for us to stay united and this is why we have a union so that we wont get bullied to make concessions on tthings that we believe are for the best of evryemployee that we represent.

I would be concerned about the impact of the fitness for work clause in terms of opening the university to liability by excluding individuals with disabilities from continuing their employment. In addition, we are already paid substaintially less than others with similar jobs at other local state and private institutions. I am concerned reducing the COLA would impact UMass's ability to retain and recruit the best workers.

We should not concede to unfair and discriminatory contracts. We already have fallen behind with cost of living wages over the past years, and have lost real value of our wages with the increase in costs of benefits. This has occured while teachers and other state employees have received theirs and kept up with inflation. Merit has increased the divide and been distributed unfairly over the years. According to our state reps the funding is there and the administration is refusing to allocate it. They are treating us unprofessionally, wihtout appreciation, and disrespectfully.

Wouldn't be nice if we all worked together in mutual respect to create every day a better UMass?

FItness-for-work would have to be applied to all levels of University staff and the administration, and be administered by a non-invested, objective third-party organization to ever be considered close to fair.

For an institution that sponsored a symposium and workshops on preventing workplace bullying, either the hypocrisy of their bargaining tactics are lost on them or their anti-bullying efforts are just a facade. No concessions!

Professional staff work incredibly hard on this campus; outside of Whitmore I don't know a single office that isn't understaffed. Yet there is no fair or equitable treatment of staff by management. Thirty years ago, the low salaries on campus were acceptable because the benefits were excellent. That's not true today, and in fact the raises we get don't even seem to keep up with the increases in the costs of working here.

We work very hard for the University and the Commonwealth. What we ask is reasonable - a chance to keep our heads above water.
