We the undersigned petition Dr. Wildeman, president of the University of Windsor (UW), to provide details on the investigative and disciplinary process of handling alleged breaches of academic integrity for faculty and administrators. The University administration has failed to provide adequate details regarding the issues surrounding the recent suspension of Dr. Beckford "in recognition of an academic integrity breach involving plagiarism". As a result, 

we request answers to the following questions and access to the actual policy documents regarding the issues addressed:

1. What is UW's policy on academic integrity for deans & faculty?

2. What is UW's policy on alleged violations of academic integrity by Deans/Faculty?

3. What is UW's policy/procedure for making such an allegation against Deans/Faculty?

4. What is UW's policy/procedure in investigating such an allegation?

5. What is UW's policy on the disciplinary process for plagiarism?

It is due to the seriousness of plagiarism and the severity of the sanctions they carry that we request transparency from the UW administration.  Integrity IS important to an academic institution.  An allegation and sanction as serious as plagiarism against a well-respected member of the faculty demands the senior administration demonstrate integrity and transparency in dealing with the situation 

While we can appreciate UW’s stance on respecting the confidentiality of this case, we do want to stress the importance of ADMINISTRATIVE integrity and transparency.  We expect our request for information to be met with a sense of urgency and respect and hope that the Dr. Wildeman provides a response to our request in writing and sent to the emails provided on this petition by December 24, 2012.
