Started by MHSA STUDENT BODY 7 years, 4 months ago

For years now, Milwaukee High School of The Arts has been recognized for our HARD-WORK in the Art Departments. The students and staff that attend and work at this school are people of Passion, Determination, Perfection, and Talent. Each student has worked so hard to get into our school and we don't believe that being part of the early enrollment process should cause the standards to be lowered to get into our school. Auditions to get into this school are most important. They determine where one's passion lies. About two years ago the audition process was so meaningful that students would stress for months awaiting that letter in the mail saying "You made it". The audition process is what makes MHSA a unique school and ensures that all the students are passionate about our majors and art areas. Central Office and the MPS District have changed our acceptance requirements, making the auditions less important than other criteria. If we allow this to continue, our school will truly live up to ALL the stereotypes that have been spread about us. WE as the STUDENT BODY have the opportunity to change this so let's do it TOGETHER.

As a current staff member and alum of MHSA, I wholeheartedly believe that our auditions are one of the most important things to the enrollment process. By choosing to diminish the importance of the audition within the early enrollment process, we are seeing a decline in the respect and pride of students in our school.

AUDITIONS are totally necessary for the process of admission into MHSA. WIthout it the school will not be as good as it is, anyone will be allowed in. Auditions are super important, and I am so glad the kids designed this petition. My kid is a Jr here.

As a founding member of Danceworks Performance Company, it is vital to keep MHSA an arts school. I protested budget cuts while I was a student at MHSA and will continue to do so every time funding is threatened. Continue to allow our budding artists to develop their talents. They are at the heart of future arts in Milwaukee!

This has been the school I was pining after for years, solely on the fact that it is an arts school. I would be perfectly fine transferring if that changes, and MHSA would lose a large amount of students if they cut art programs

Me being an alumni, I would feel like all my hard work for 4 Years, would have gone down the drain. We worked hard to keep a standard and a quality to our school and the Mhsa Arts programs. We are proud of our school. The student body is unique and open, you'd be closing the culture of MHSA.

It took me two auditions to get into this school and I worked hard for my major. I believe every future student should go through the same audition standards I did.

The point of an Arts school is to show off your arts. You have to audition in order to that. It might as well just become West Division then.
