Payton has a moderate form of High Functioning Autism and unless you know, you can't tell. Payton has participated in sports since he was 5 years old. He tries hard and gives everything 100%. Our school district will not allow him to participate in sports as a home school student. Payton does not learn well in a typical classroom setting and the school system does not provide the services he needs to be successful. All Payton wants is to belong... to be included... to be a part of the things he loves along side his peers. Our community does not provide any outside sporting activities that he can participate in, to fill the void. You must be 18 to play in the men's leagues. He is too old to play in the boys leagues. This petition is to bring the policy to the public's attention and to get the school board to readdress the districts policy. Up until 4 years ago, home school students could participate under certain conditions. If policy could be changed then, it can be revisited and changed again.
