The school board reversed the decision and Payton will be allowed to join the team. It was a long road to get here but I am relieved we finally reached the finish line. We will be watching closely to ensure this policy change sticks for everyone else coming after us.

The school board remains silent on this issue for now but their refusal to respond only strengthens my resolve to keep pushing. I am reading your comments and the stories about other children being left out are heartbreaking reminders of why this work is necessary. We are not backing down until they acknowledge that every student deserves a place on the field.

Seeing this kind of momentum is exhausting but it keeps me moving forward when the obstacles feel too heavy. I am grateful that so many of you recognize why this matters for Payton even when the path ahead still looks difficult.

This is so unfair. Kids just want to play with their friends. My son is in the same boat and it kills me seeing him left out like this.
WHY ARE THEY SO RIGID? Just let the poor kid on the team. It doesnt hurt anyone.
Check your local state laws because sometimes the district tries to say no even when the state allows it. Fight them on this.
That was our schools policy, until 4 years ago. Now they can participate in electives and other activities, but no sports.
What state do you live in? In Missouri, the Missouri High School Sports and Activities Association (MHSSAA) has a special clause in it that allows home school students to participate in their districts sports if they have 2 classes a semester from the school. We have a few students in our district who take 2 classes every morning so they can participate in the school choir and sports teams. If he does not learn well in a typical class room, and if there is a stipulation like this in your state, you may be able to find 2 classes probably electives that have smaller class sizes and that he may have interest in that could be beneficial to everyone.

My nephew had this exact problem last year. We had to get a lawyer involved just to talk to the board. Ridiculous.
